Report from Sandringham Charity Horse Ride 11th May 2014

Thank you to the members that were able to assist in providing safety communications cover at this event.  Around 60 horses and riders took part in weather that ranged from bright sunshine to very heavy downpours!

Only one minor safety incident was dealt with but the rider managed to continue on the ride. We used the standard set-up for the event running 5w on 2m into a collinear on a small mast at 6m.  We also ran some HF on 3.663MHz but sadly a close-by generator at the control made this problematic at times.

Report From West Norfolk Countryside Ride 30 Mar 2014

Thank you to members that turned out to help provide safety communications cover at this multi-distance horse ride. We had 165 riders taking part on routes up to 10 miles long. A couple of riders managed to get misplaced and one lost his horse. All ended well and all managed to complete part of the course.

Control at the ride

Control at the ride

We ran a 2m net at 5W which provided good coverage,  We attempted to run the cross-band talk-though unit but the voltage on the battery we used dropped rendering the unit unusable. Dropping back to simplex mode proved fine. Further tests on the battery capacity will be undertaken.

Tidal Surge Dec 2013

Thanks to all who made contact to offer your services and I know several of you were probably waiting in the wings for any call.

In the end amateur comms was used for one message to confirm safe arrival of staff at the rest centre established in Hunstanton. Thankfully in West Norfolk only limited numbers required evacuation and the phone networks and systems held up during the storm and heavy winds.

Ironic that this all occurred in the 60th year of Raynet’s inception following the 1953 flooding.
